I bought this for my in-laws to feed their new Sony KDL-46S5100 HD TV, but I can't report on its functionality yet due to a shipping catastrophe with the TV that is still being resolved. (I'll edit this later, if I can.) However...
WARNING: This unit does NOT ship with an HDMI cable. Sony should be ashamed (it's the only piece of HD gear I've seen that doesn't come with an HDMI cable, and there is no point whatsoever in having a Blu-Ray player if you're just going to play it back via composite video--the only cable Sony provided). So you should be sure to take advantage of the paired offering with a low-cost HDMI cable or one of the other low-cost HDMI cables Amazon offers. (Don't be put off by the cable's shipping cost being much more than the cost of the cable itself--most HDMI cables are a good deal more expensive.) You'll need it to hook this player up.
